The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Fever

ramblings keep me sane

When I started this blog my focus was on book reviews but now that it has grown, I want to share some stuff other than book reviews. Ramblings Keep Me sane is essentially about, well, ramblings. It could be book-related ramblings… or not. It’ll be like a discussion post where readers can share their opinion about anything under the sun.

I am a huge fan of the Hunger Games trilogy and the Hunger Games movie. Today, November 21 is the release date of Catching Fire in the Philippines! I’m sure there will be a long cue at the cinemas as we speak. I dislike long cues and lots of people so I often don’t watch a movie on its first day of screening.

In other countries Catching Fire has already been released, as for the US it will be released tomorrow, November 22.

Have you watched Catching Fire yet? What are your thoughts about the movie?

What Do You Honestly Think of the Book You Read?

When I started this blog my focus was on book reviews but now that it has grown, I want to share some stuff other than book reviews. Ramblings Keep Me sane is essentially about, well, ramblings. What Do You Honestly Think of the Book You Read?

I am sure we all have experienced this before: someone hates the book we love. I’ve experienced it too many times. And when I write a positive review of a book everyone seems to hate, I can’t help but doubt myself and my judgment of what a good book is. Why does everybody hate the book that seems alright to me? Have I missed something? Is there something wrong with my judgment?

When I post a review on my blog and it seems contradictory to the opinion of most of the people who have read a certain book, I get nervous because I don’t want people to hate on me for loving that book (I’ve seen too many fandom wars and ’re always ugly). That fear doesn’t seem to make sense but hey, this is the internet and people get twice braver and more vicious behind the computer monitor that’s why I’m always careful not to offend anybody. That doesn’t mean I’m trying to please everybody either, I know I can’t really please everybody. What I want is to avoid unnecessary confrontations and arguments.

However, I still write what I honestly think of a book. Or sometimes when I think the book is really horrible and I have nothing nice to say, I just shut my mouth. When I write a 1-3 star review I try to give as constructive a criticism as possible and I do not attack or call the author names. Sure I criticize his or her work but that’s only as far as I go.

Before I post a review, it’s a habit of mine to read what people on Goodreads say about a book and when I see a 4-5 star review, I read it but I stay clear of the 3-1 star reviews. When someone hates the book I love, I don’t usually listen to the reasons why they hate the book because it tends to influence my view of the book and I end up hating it too! I know it sounds crazy but negative views influence me very quickly.

It is also always very intimidating to write a review of a book, knowing there is a possibility that the author of the book might read your review. Even if I write a positive review, it is still unnerving to know that anytime that author can stumble upon my page and read what I think of his or her work. I wonder if they would agree with my thoughts of their work. I also wonder if they would respond to my opinion or not.

I realize how crazy this seems to you. These are the things that I wasn’t aware about until I started book blogging. And this is the first time I admitted them to myself. Ever since I started this journey of sharing to the whole world my opinion of the books I read, it is hard not to feel overwhelmed. There are so many things that could influence you on your writing your review and they’re not always positive influences. Regardless, I still try my best to write an honest review.

Am I the only one with these thoughts or do you feel the same too?

I’m still alive, you know.

Hiya! How are you guys? Yeah I know I’ve been AWOL in the past month. September was full of bumps and twists for me.

I was on the reading slump for almost two weeks, I didn’t want to read any books, and I lost my zeal for blogging. School stuff kept me busy too. It’s almost the end of the semester and we’re bombarded with tons of school work and stuff. My guy and I called it quits last month and needless to say, I was devastated but we’re very good friends now. It was a fun and wonderful one year with him but all good things must come to an end.

I got busy buying books last month! As you know I’ve been trying to quell my urge to blow cash on books for a couple of months because I still have tons of unread books in my shelf and ebooks in my virtual shelf but last month National Bookstore had this huge sale and who can say no to book sales? Definitely not me.

I also went to bookstores like Powerbooks Festival Mall branch, Powerbooks Alabang Town Center branch and Fully Booked Alabang Town Center Branch. These three bookstores are pretty far from where I live but they have amazing selection of books and reading materials so it’s really worth it to visit them. I got my Fully Booked discount card too (Thanks again, Francine), which entitles me to a 10% discount when I buy books. I did blow some serious cash but heck it was worth it. I’m going to do a book haul post some time this month, so watch out for that.

Awesome!

Tour posts were posted on time but other than that, nothing much went on with the blog last month. This month I hope I can post more reviews. I especially want to focus on the review posts. Last month, I realized my blog posts weren’t as good as they should be. When I started blogging just this year, my goal was to post as often as possible. I tried to post stuff almost everyday to keep my blog updated, but looking back, I realized my posts’ quality is declining. My posts seem rushed and I know my blog is better than that.

This time I decided to focus on reviews, this is a review blog after all. My new goal is to post at least two reviews in a week. I would also lessen participating in memes, two memes (Sunday Post and Teaser Tuesday) a week is just right. I don’t want this blog to be taken over by memes—although they’re very fun to participate in.

I’m also introducing a new feature on my blog, Ramblings Keep Me Sane.

The thoughts and opinion of my readers are important to me and this is a great way to get to know this blog’s audience more. I haven’t decided how often I would post RKMS but I’ll try to post at least once a month. I’m really excited about this new twist and I hope you are too.

Francine and I, we’re cooking up something really exciting for December. Hint: it’ll have lots of prizes! More info about it will come soon so stay tuned.

That was how my September went. And I am very pleased to say that I’m back to blogging!
